Ibridazioni uomo-macchina.

E’ importante ragionare su questi temi, illustrarli e pensare come affrontarli.

French Power

TOYOTA and Total gathered this morning to reach an agreement on principles of contract to be signed that day. An agreement in principle had already been signed between the two companies. Toyota, which has met with France this week, wanted to explain to Total that it took measures about the level of discharge of pollutant gas after a French request.

We expect the signing of the contract to occur today. We can ask the question of the legitimacy of the intervention of a country in such negotiations between firms. We cannot believe a country can influence so relations between the companies. It will never cease to amaze us that a company submit to the will of one country.

2010 Toyota Avalon: smooth, roomy, and tranquil

When you get in Toyota’s largest sedan, what stands out most, is its smoothness and quiet operation. Avalon’s design, vibration mitigating features and good build quality all contribute to a car that is more tranquil than many sedans that cost a lot more. As I drove the Avalon, it almost felt like I was floating on air, almost unaware of the dirt road leading up to my house. But it is more than just a nice ride. It also delivers good acceleration and good mileage for such a big car. Its 6 speed automatic transmission is quick shifting and decisive. It’s pleasant to drive, and it won’t leave you disappointed if you need to get somewhere in a hurry.

The 2010 Avalon offers one of Toyota’s finest interior packages. It’s quiet, offers quality materials, and is spacious. The cabin contributes to the Avalon’s serene ambience, and from a functional perspective it ranks a high score. The interior is nicely finished and equipped with easy to use controls. The front seats are roomy and comfortable, and the back seat had enough room for my 6’ 4” son-in-law. It all makes Avalon easy to like and even easier to enjoy. Think of it as refuge from a hectic and noisy world.

For the 2009 model, Toyota made available a comprehensive safety package by making skid-mitigating Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) standard on the Avalon. Active front headrests, designed to limit whiplash injuries by cradling the head more effectively in a rear impact, were also added as standard equipment. Avalon also has the latest safety technology, starting with a full complement of front, side and head-protection airbags. It scores well in government and insurance-industry crash tests. And in addition to the now-standard VSC skid-management electronics, it comes with traction control and an ant-lock brake system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. These features make sure that stopping power is distributed evenly, regardless of road surface, and that the brakes apply with full force in a panic stop.

The Avalon Limited, which I tested, ($35,285) gets upgrades like a 360-watt JBL Synthesis audio system with 12 speakers and Blue Tooth connectivity, a power rear sunshade, Toyota’s Smart Key proximity key system, HID headlamps, a wood-and-leather-trimmed shift knob and steering wheel, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and driver and passenger seats are heated and cooled. The Limited mirrors also include a couple model specific features, starting with LED turn signals that are visible to other drivers in the glass. I liked the bright LED lights under the mirrors, because they flood the ground below the doors with light as you approach in darkness. The Limited model also comes with a rear glass sunshade, operated by the driver. The sunshade lowers automatically if it’s up when the driver engages reverse, then lifts it again when you put it back in drive.

One thing that contributes to the Avalon’s smoothness is its 3.5-liter V6 engine, which might seem a bit small for a relatively large car. But the Avalon has a surprising amount of power. The dual overhead-cam V6 generates a substantial 268 horsepower and 248 pound feet of torque, and it moves the Avalon with authority. Toyota uses variable valve timing and a dual-stage variable intake manifold to generate the power. It flows smoothly and evenly from idle to the engine’s 6200-rpm limit, whether you’re accelerating casually from a stop sign or flooring the gas pedal to merge onto I-70 into traffic. Fuel economy is among the best in its class, with an EPA-estimated 19/28 City/Highway mpg. Those numbers are very respectable for a car this big and roomy. This is thanks in part to Avalon’s six-speed automatic transmission.

There’s a lot to like about the 2010 Avalon. Driving enthusiasts would probably say it’s too plain vanilla for their tastes. But the Avalon is pleasant to drive and never leaves you tired after a long commute home from work, which can be huge on hectic days. The Toyota Avalon delivers the latest safety technology, and driving it is a pleasant, almost serene process, and given its size and the space inside, it gets good fuel mileage. Anyone seeking a smooth, quiet, roomy sedan does not need to pay more to get it.

Prius large version

The success of Toyota’s hybrid car sales, the Prius seems to provoke this Japanese manufacturer to issue a new variant of the Prius. Reportedly the largest manufacturer in the world that is currently preparing the latest models of the Prius which has a larger dimension than the market now.

As reported by the Japanese newspaper Yomiuri and detikOto quotes from leftlanenews, Sunday (15/11/2009), the latest variant of the Prius is likely to enter the market at the end of next year.

Even so, it is unclear which model will be used by Toyota for the Prius is great, though many expect the crossover model was the one who will choose Toyota.

Particularly large Prius will reportedly also uses a lithium ion battery technology is more powerful than batteries currently used. This certainly will be a main attraction.

This new model Prius is expected to be present in Japan at the end of next year with the official price of about U.S. $ 22,000 or approximately USD 200 million and would also be very interested in the American market where the Prius is very popular.

Presence of a new model of the Prius, too can also be seen as a sign of the Prius into a sub-brand of Toyota.

Montadoras têm balanços positivos em 2009

Diário do Grande ABC

Save Fuel And Still Get 5-Star Safety

New safety rating results show that low fuel consumption cars can also achieve the highest safety ratings.

The Mini Cooper diesel hatch, the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic diesel hatch, the Volvo C30 diesel hatch, all models of Toyota’s environmental flagship, the hybrid Prius, have achieved a 5-star safety rating from Australia’s leading independent vehicle safety advocate, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
ANCAP Business Manager, Nick Clarke, said the results show new car buyers they can save fuel and still get 5-star safety. “These ratings show that manufacturers can make a range of fuel efficient vehicles which do not compromise safety results,” Mr Clarke said.
Other ANCAP results show the recently released Subaru Liberty Exiga and the upgraded Hyundai Santa Fe with 4 cylinder engine also achieved 5-star ANCAP ratings. The Honda City sedan achieved a 4-star rating. The results released today are from crash tests undertaken by ANCAP in Australia and by ANCAP’s sister organisation EuroNCAP, to internationally recognised protocols.

Toyota gets hit for admitting problem

alphainventions

In today’s Toronto Star there is an article titled: “Canadians left in the dark”, where the Automobile Protection Association is complaining that Canadians did not get a letter telling them about the floor mat problem. Yeah, right, as if the whole world doesn’t know about it. Toyota was very open and the media made a big splash about it.

Meanwhile, back at Ford, they are hiding behind the bushes like school-yard perverts and hoping no one will notice the plethora of blowing spark plugs, leaking rear windows and the all time favourite – leaking front windows.

I mean, if you put the floor mat in as instructed – no problem. And if it does stick, turn off the ignition (without locking it) or jam the gear shift into neutral)

You buy a Ford F150, you don’t even know the front window is leaking until you start to replace electronics. Ever have the wipers fail in a downpour? I know one mother did and it could have ended in a tragic moment.

Ever been stalled in a vehicle in the middle of nowhere and it won’t start in sub-zero weather? Hope you have matches to burn the manual for heat.

Electronic door locks burn out and you can’t start the vehicle? Hope you’re not trying to get someone to the hospital.

Who has the balls? Sneaky Pete Ford who doesn’t come out and explain the problem or, Toyota who was very open.

Its called ethics and our Ford buddies lack this in big time. Maybe the CAW/UAW will come out of the closet and help the consumer out. No!!!. Oh yes, might spoil those big benefit packages.

Who ever heard of employees not paying into a pension fund – at least part of it and then expect the government to bail them out with tax dollars. The same guys who put in the leaky windows and say: buy local not foreign and buy union. Tell me why?

Here is the letter I sent to the Automobile Protection Association. I expect to hear the delete button any minute.

- – - – - – - -

I have noted that Toyota is doing, in the U.S., a recall on the loose floor mat problem that can interfere with the accelerator pedals of their vehicles. I notice that your organization has gone public with the idea that Toyota should have sent letters to the Canadian owners of Toyota vehicles. I agree with your argument on this issue.

What I can’t understand is that Ford has sold numerous vehicles that have spark plugs blowing out and rear windows leaking. I find the spark plug issue potentially dangerous but nothing has been done. No recall, no notification of the public and certainly no reimbursement for this faulty part.

In addition, there are numerous complaints (most to U.S. government) that the front window was improperly installed by Ford on F150 trucks. They have acknowledged this internally but have done nothing for the consumer – no recall, no formal notification, nothing.

There are numerous instances where this faulty leaking window will cause the electronics to fail, sometimes at dangerous times such as downpours and below freezing weather. I feel that you should look into this and make this problem public for many reasons.

Many of us replaced expensive electronic equipment due to this faulty window, at our cost, including the window. These vehicles are being sold as roadworthy to others, who find that they have to replace corroded electronics on the used vehicles. Ford is making money on the repairs without telling the public about the problem, a problem they designed into the vehicle with faulty material. If the electronics fail at a certain point in time, the vehicle could lose control due to wipers failing, lights flicking on and off, etc. As well, the electronic door locks can create a problem and if the electronics short out, the vehicle won’t start – this could be fatal in our northern climate.

Loose floor mats (if the owner puts them in right, there is no problem) is one thing but a product design that allows electronic corrosion that costs the consumer money and potentially injury, is another. I feel that your association, if you feel floor mats are a problem, should also investigate the leaking front window problem on F150’s.

The Junk/Art Car Turns Heads

What the heck?!?

Saturday morning I was looking out my front door window, watching the parade of cars go past our cul-de-sac on their way to my neighbor T-bird’s garage sale. Suddenly, the above sight caught my eye.

First I gaped . . . and then I grabbed my Nikon D700 (with the Nikon 35-70mm lens attached) and ran out the door. My first thought: Great blog photos!

Any surprise that the owner wore a tie-dyed outfit?

The car, which had jewels, rocks, toy figures, and more glued to its interior and exterior, stopped at the garage sale, giving me a chance to snap a bunch of photos.

The relatively sedate interior features Mardi Gras beads.

I’m not sure how the car’s owner drives without being thoroughly distracted. The Toyota’s interior didn’t have as much junk glued on it as the exterior, but I did admire its cluster of Mardi Gras beads (which would be popular with our many Louisiana natives).

B.O.B. from "Monsters vs. Aliens" is featured on the dashboard.

Just look at the beautiful rocks glued on the dashboard among the toys (don’t think I’d want to be stuck near the creepy Burger King, though)!

Colorful balls hang from the window frame.

The owner told me that he’s been working on the car’s interior for about a year. Looks like it’s still a work in progress.

The owner seems to be a Willy Wonka fan.

The exterior, which the owner said he’s spent about five months remodeling, features a plethora of signs. Many of them spout the words of wisdom of Willy Wonka.

The back of the car looks jeweled.

I think that sticker that reads “Normal people worry me” explains everything!

Gumby and Pokey are among the toys adorning the roof.

My favorite part of the car is its roof. There’s so much to look at!

The Kung Fu panda joins Snow White and Scooby Doo on the roof.

I like how the toys are intermingled with glass objects, like the dragon fly on the paperweight above. Gives the car’s roof a true eclectic feel.

"Monsters Inc." characters flank more jewels and stones.

So what did the car’s owner walk away with from the garage sale? Just another “Monsters vs. Aliens” character to add to B.O.B. on the dashboard.

The junk car is leaving the ’hood.

So is it a junk car or an art car? Maybe it’s both. One thing’s for sure: The altered Toyota definitely is a head-turner!

Visa Black Card

I got one of those pre-approved credit card offers in the mail last week – or rather my wife did. Normally they go straight to the trash but this one caught my eye because it was for something called the Visa Black Card. Now, living in New York and LA over the past decade, I’ve been exposed to the American Express Black Card a few times over the years and this immediately struck me for the simple fact that it was so me-too in nature. Admittedly, I know very little about the Black Card but I am aware of the cache that it carries as well as its exclusivity, given that I can count on one hand the number that I have seen it. I have no idea if it has been a commercial success for Amex but I’m aware that it carries strong brand equity for those in the know. It tends to conjure up images of jet setting business moguls or Hollywood stars.

After seeing the Visa mailer, I did a little digging to learn more. It turns out that the American Express card often referred to as the “black card” is, in fact, called the Centurion card…which may explain why Visa chose the Black Card name. I also learned that the new Visa card is not nearly as exclusive (or expensive) as the Amex card. According to Wikipedia,  the Amex Centurion card is by invitation only and the requirements are thought to include exceptional credit history, and holding a platinum card for at least one year with a minimum of $250k in spend. All of that and a discreet annual fee of, wait for it…$2500 – after the one-time $5000 initiation fee. Clearly not intended for people like me or my wife. The Visa black card, on the other hand, states that it is limited to 1% of US residents but only carries a paltry annual fee of $495. Nothing to smirk at, certainly, but hardly the gag inducing $7500 chez American Express. In case you were wondering, 1% of US residents is roughly 3 million people. According to this blog dedicated to the Centurion card, about 17,000 people currently hold Amex Centurion cards. Even if many more than that get invited, I doubt the number approaches anything close to 3 million. As it turns out the Visa Black Card is much closer to the Amex Platinum card both in terms of requirements and benefits – the notable difference being that both the Amex Platinum and Amex Centurion are charge cards (balance must be paid each month) while the Visa is a credit card.

But as this is a blog about branding, what I find most intriguing is the strategy Visa seems to take with this card. The business driver behind launching this card is presumably to capture a slice of the high-end market which presumably has either higher margins or lower risk or both given the income brackets of the target consumers. It is also safe to say that Visa does not currently have the market share in this segment that they desire while Amex is almost certainly the market leader (based on the fact that Visa is blatantly attempting to imitate their card.

As I’ve stated before, I’m not a fan of me-too strategies. If you can’t be the first-mover in a segment or market then you have to differentiate. If you are the number 2 brand in a market/segment then be the opposite of what the leader is (Al & Laura Ries do a great job of explaining this and giving examples in their book The Origin of Brands - see my review here - Chapter 12). Visa makes several missteps.

  • they try to sell a similar product using the same positioning as the market leader
Anytime a brand takes this strategy it is usually going to be seen for what it is – a poor imitation of the real thing
  • they pick a name and color that is synomous with the market leader
Use orange, use blue, use red, use white for goodness sake. But if the market leader and first mover is known informally as the black card, whatever you do, don’t call yourself the Black Card. the market is high-end credit/charge cards…not black rectangular cards that fit in your wallet. Be innovative, be unique. Nothing about this card is innovative or unique. The rewards and benefits are virtually identical to what you’d get with Amex Platinum. The card is made of carbon which might seem different until you recall that the Centurion card is made of titanium. There are so many more interesting things they could have done: a different shape like trapezoid or more rounded or a card that folds.
  • they seem to forget they are marketing a luxury product and Visa is not exactly known as a luxury good.
    Two things here:
One – inherent to luxury is exclusivity. Often with luxury goods, exclusivity is viewed as an indicator of quality whether accurate or not. Visa’s card is clearly the less exclusive when put against the Centurion card. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but if consumers equate that to an inferior product then Visa is going to lose everytime. Therefore, why position the Black Card as a Centurion alternative. Come up with a unique reward that Amex doesn’t offer or make it about the credit (balance carry-over) benefits. Nowhere on the mailer I got did it make note of this fact. That seems like an important benefit.
Two – Take a page out of the car manufacturers’ book and consider sub-branding. Visa is a well-recognized and well-respected brand name for sure. So are Toyota and Honda. But when they decided to introduce cars in the luxury market they chose names (Lexus and Acura) that distanced and differentiated those products from their more mainstream models. Likewise, Visa may be well liked but nobody is going to feel very distinguished possessing a credit card brand that millions of other cardholders also have. Launching a new brand is never cheap or easy but is often more successful than over-extending a brand with non-synergistic line extensions.

The only way I can see Visa getting many consumers to jump on this offer is if they succeed in confusing them about which card they are actually signing up for.

Irn-Bru GP League: manufacturer pull-out prompts F1 panic re-brand

Behind the FIA shed: the gathering stench of abandoned manufacturers round the back of the F1 paddock has forced the sport’s governing body to convene an extraordinary session of its incredible council in the Place de la Concorde’s unbelievable room to discuss re-branding the sport, reveals our downgraded sports correspondent, Cheralton Hockey-Mask.

News that only Ferrari and Mercedes Benz could be left as manufacturers following the departure of middle class guilt assuaging crypto-electric minibus manufacturer, Toyota amidst rumours that French fraudsters Renault are soon to follow them out the door has brought panic, fear and above all panic to the highest echelons of the sport’s mountain tops.

“Everyone is extremely concerned about what’s happened,” one insider blathered. “This is supposed to be the pinnacle of world motorsport but now it’s starting to look like a Bank Holiday international edition of Superchamps”, he scaremongered.

Toyota’s F1 team in happier times

And despite a significant hinterland of non-manufacturer F1 history with teams such as Williams, Lotus, Minardi and Bedford Rascal forming the majority of previous grids, the plethora of manufacturers in the noughties led many to assume F1 could not survive without the patronage of at least half a dozen dizzyingly profligate family hatchback builders fighting to out-spend their nearest rivals on pounds per point/to get just one driver into Q3/scrape that hard fought, lapped 8th place point in front of watching billions/demonstrate the slight inferiority of their technology to most of the other manufacturers week in, week out.

But with first Honda, then BMW pulling out the prospects of more multi-billion pound shitbox builders pulling the plug on Grand Prix racing has caused the normally unflappable* FIA to call for drastic measures.

“The FIA are calling for drastic measures”, said the insider, “everyone has got so used to the sexy glamour the builders of cars such as the Yaris, Accord and Twingo brought to Formula 1, their replacement by teams who sound like branding exercises for soft drinks mean that they [the FIA] feel they can no longer justify calling this sport, Formula 1.”

Manufacturer exit prompted fears of F1 glamour erosion in 2010

And whilst the possible new names are being kept under wraps, Pitflaps has learnt that the following alternatives are being seriously considered as the new name for 2010:

  • The Grand Prix League
  • Formula 2.1 (+)
  • International Quik-Pilotz
  • A1GP

“Desperate times call for desperate measures”, continued insider bloke, “if F1 is to retain its cache as the pinnacle of world motorsport if necessary, the very name itself requires mothballing in case its image is permanently tarnished by these small fry private teams whose only F1 qualification is years and years and years of being extremely successful at doing much the same thing on a smaller level.

“It is imperitive that we maintain the image of F1 being about multi-billion dollar investment”, he concluded, “and we can do this by not having people turning up and achieving more by only spending several million dollars on the same thing”.

Trivia results for Nov. 11

The Hero or Zero question continues to shake up the standings as the Dirty Dixies went from worst to first in the standings.

Five teams wagered 20 points on the Hero or Zero question, the category of which was classic TV sitcoms. Every team missed the question except for the Dirty Dixies, who knew that the Professor’s real name on Gilligan’s Island was Roy Hinkley. The Dixies picked up 12.5 points, while Empty Glasses, Clever Team Name, Chasin’ Trivia, Wayne’s World and Don @ the Bar lost 20 points on the question.

Empty Glasses, usually one of the top teams, is now in 6th place, but given the topsy-turvy nature of the Hero or Zero question no team is out of the running for the title just yet.

Wayne’s World and Dirty Dixies won the beer rounds during the night.

Trivial tidbits from the night included:

  • Deion Sanders is the only person to play in a World Series and and Super Bowl.
  • Josephine Cochrane gained fame in 18 by inventing the dishwasher.
  • in 1984, Toyota was the first Japanese automaker to introduce the minivan to the U.S. market.

Standings:

  1. Dirty Dixies – 147.5 points
  2. Clever Team Name – 146
  3. Guys & Dolls – 141
  4. Wayne’s World – 132
  5. Chasin’ Trivia – 129
  6. Empty Glasses – 120
  7. Simple Minded – 72

Ford começa a tirar Detroit do marasmo

December 'young driver' test takes shape

A novel driver line-up for next month’s rare Formula One test is taking shape. General end-of-season testing is banned, but three days for the purposes of “young driver training” in December are permitted according to the 2009 Sporting Regulations.

Only drivers with less than three races of F1 experience are eligible. The teams have decided to run at Jerez between 1-3 December.

Ferrari has allocated the days to the top three finishers in the Italian F3 championship: Daniel Zampieri and Marco Zipoli, and the Mexican teenager Pablo Sanchez Lopez.

Red Bull will run the British F3 champion Daniel Ricciardo and Brendon Hartley will be at the wheel of the Toro Rosso.

Williams confirmed this week that Andy Soucek will be driving on the first day as his prize for winning the F2 title, before the team’s 2010 race driver Nico Hulkenberg takes over.

BMW Sauber will be running with Formula BMW champions Alexander Rossi and Esteban Gutierrez.

Gary Paffett will test for McLaren Mercedes; while Toyota had been expected to run Kamui Kobayashi until the carmaker announced its immediate withdrawal from F1.

Renault will run the new World Series champion Bertrand Baguette as well as team test driver Lucas di Grassi.

Force India is expected to turn out at the Spanish circuit with the Indian hopeful Karun Chandhok.

Williams optimistic over Cosworth

Williams technical director Sam Michael is confident Cosworth will produce a competitive engine when it returns to Formula 1 next season.

The team from Grove will use Cosworth power units from next year, having been using Toyota engines for the past three seasons.

Although Cosworth has been away from Formula 1 for three years, Michael, speaking exclusively to AUTOSPORT, said he is cautiously optimistic that the Northampton-based manufacturer will supply his team with a strong engine.

“We won’t know that until we get it on the track,” Michael said when asked if the Cosworth was a winning engine.

“Our target is always to be at the front and with the grid being so tight now it’s even more realistic to have that as a target as the regulations have closed everything up so much.

“Finding one or two tenths from aerodynamic or some other gain can put you in with a shout of winning races. That’s why there have been so many winners this year. Cosworth are going to do a good job.”

Williams last used Cosworth power units in 2006 before moving to Toyota, and the team is now going the other way.

Despite that, Michael reckons it would not have been the best idea to stick with Cosworth all this time.

“The sport has changed massively since 2006,” he said. “If you look back from the early 2000s to the last 18 months, it has been manufacturer dominated but that’s shifting significantly.

“There were different reasons for not being with Cosworth back then. But you can also ask if the decision we took was correct? We don’t know, because history sets itself and that’s it.

“If we had continued with Cosworth back then, maybe it wouldn’t have been the best thing. That’s the great thing about F1 – it keeps evolving and it’s a process of change right now and that has led things back to an independent engineering group being the best thing for Williams.

“Cosworth has got two big hurdles. Fuel consumption is critical with no refuelling, and their target for the winter is to improve that. The other is reliability. Everyone has accumulated three years of running on their engines while Cosworth has been out and gained thousands of kilometres of knowledge.”

Guess the JDM Minivan, Win Some CarDomain Swag

I have been having a real hard time trying to identify the JDM Minivan that has been displayed in the DUB Booth since Monday. I have asked the (real) booth professionals with no luck. I left a phone message with the Air Runner Systems distributor in Anaheim to no avail. I even threw out the question to other Bloggers here at SEMA. So now its time to throw out the question to our readers. Identify this wild custom JDM van, and win some CarDomain Swag. Read more after the Jump!

This car is the very definition of SEMA. It has the aforementioned Air Runner suspension system, over-sized wheel and tire package, and a couple of unique features. Notice the finish; This thing has every body panel covered in red vinyl, grained like the vinyl roofs offered during the 70’s. Instead of vinyl graphics proclaiming who’s products lie within the car, it is actually embroidered on the vinyl. And what is with those red headlamps?

Here’s what you do. Post a comment below, not more than three comments from each member. By the time I get back to Connecticut, I will know what it is, so you won’t get away with wild ass guesses.

Sudden Acceleration in Toyota Cars Causes Owners to Rebel After Accidents - ABC News

Does this remind anyone else of the claims of unintended acceleration with the Audi 5000 in the ’80s?

CLICK:  Sudden Acceleration in Toyota Cars Causes Owners to Rebel After Accidents – ABC News.

Hopefully this won’t shrink Toyota’s business as much as the bad press for Audi ruined their US sales.  It took over ten years for Audi to recover from that notorious 60 Minutes piece.  Prior, the Audi 5000 was the fastest selling European sedan in the US.  The model name “5000″ was so brutally tarnished that Audi had to rename and rebrand the car the “100″ in 1989 in an effort to further remove itself from the scandalous Don Hewitt-approved story on 60 Minutes.

It ends up that the complaining Audi owners were ultimately just poorly skilled drivers who were new to the brand and didn’t realize that the German automaker put the gas pedal and brake pedal closer together than domestic brands of the time.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) concluded that the majority of unintended acceleration cases, including all that prompted the 60 Minutes report, were caused by driver error (i.e., confusion of pedals).  CBS issued a partial retraction.

Got 8 kids? Buy a 10 seater Prius!

For those mad families who have 6+ kids!

This is a custom Toyota Prius 6 door-10 seater car made by a crazy Canadian man. It still gets 50 mpg would you believe. I do wonder how it takes corners however! It’s a very odd design but very well done. For me though a 7 seater is just enough for the extended family. We hire a Kia Carens from Sussex over Christmas for big family get-togethers. We like the garage and they do the best deals.

Wider is better.

Ford - where shafting is No. 1. Safety? Who needs safety?

alphainventions

I haven’t really been spending much time on this blog.  Why?  I guess the realization that Ford continues its Nazi type thinking and the chances of Ford doing anything for the consumer is next to nil so I spend my time more productively elsewhere – like scratching that itch on my butt.  Kind of like the CAW/UAW workers that put our F150 together with the faulty window – their minds must have been elsewhere.

Anyways, I received the following letter which only shows there are others out there suffering the same crap from Ford.  You’ll notice the fact the wipers don’t work in the rain - kind of a safety issue in my book but I guess not much in Ford’s mind.  I guess at Ford – “Safety isn’t No. 1″.

Well, here is the letter and I have dropped the person’s name for their own safety – don’t need some Ford guy getting upset at this woman and maybe offering to repair her damages.  Yeah, right.

I am really frustrated.  My windshield wipers quit working in the rain and my 4 wheel drive light kept flashing off and on.  I took it to the  dealer and the first thing to service guy said to me was probably a windshield leak causing a short.  This is a common problem with Ford F-150’s.  When they checked it they said it was not covered by my extended warranty even though my warranty covers electrical parts.  Because it was caused by a leaking windshield they said maybe my car insurance would pay for it.  They sent somebody out and he said they would,t cover it because it in their opinion it is a manufacturers defect since alot of people have the same problem.  If any one can help me PLEASE let me know what to do.  I’ll join anybody to get them to pay for this.  Thanks

A number of lasts in Abu Dhabi

The final race of the season always features a number of “lasts” ahead of the winter break. Abu Dhabi 2009 is no exception as the grid is set to be shuffled with driver moves, team ownership and engine supply changes ahead of the 2010 season.

  • BMW Sauber are set for their 70th and final grand prix at a time when it is not clear whether its new owners – Qadbak – will conclude an agreement with the rival teams, the FIA and the commercial rights holders to compete next season. BMW Sauber, who made their debut in 2006, recorded one win with Robert Kubica in Montreal last year. Kubica himself is set for his final race with the team before moving to Renault next year.
  • The race will also mark the final race with Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) in its current guise. Promoted by former FIA president Max Mosley, the introduction of the KERS this year has proven expensive and controversial. Only Ferrari and McLaren are running KERS this weekend before the voluntary agreement to drop the technology comes into force. The systems could be reintroduced in 2011, but these are likely to be standard designs, rather than bespoke team designed and developed units.
  • The 55 lap grand prix will also be the final race where refuelling is permitted. Next season the cars will start the race with enough fuel to complete the race distance.
