iPhone App Prius

"They Say"

“They say that the other leading automotive company is the best. They say Toyota has the most fuel-efficient cars on the road.” Be careful of “they say,” people. I’m urging you to check your facts—not for me, but for yourself. We are a people that rely on word-of-mouth, which is sometimes a great thing. In fact, word-of-mouth advertising can be the best and certainly most trusted. However, we should push to be a people that researches, evaluates, and looks beyond the “they say”s. Watch for yourself, and don’t be afraid to dig a little. It might just benefit you in the end. See why, in this case, “they say” was wrong.

USF1 To Stick With Cosworth Despite Toyota Claims

USF1 bosses are backtracking on reports in American media that they were looking to terminate their contract with Cosworth over engine supply, in a bid to change over to Toyota.

The reports claimed that engineers believed the Toyota power units, used by the works team and also Williams since 2007, would be superior to Cosworth’s new V8 unit.

However Peter Windsor, boss of USF1 says they are very happy with Cosworth, and working alongside Bernard Ferguson who used to be Cosworth’s F1 director until 2007.

“The rumours are not true, I’m afraid,” claimed Windsor this morning

“We are fully committed to Cosworth – which is why we are delighted to have Bernard Ferguson working for us.”

Cosworth will power all 3 new teams and also return to powering the Williams F1 cars.

what we do?

I provide a unique BLACKOUT service to owners of vehicles and dealers that want to reclaim the new look of their vehicles. I use AIR BRUSH to restore the Black to faded plastics and rubber trims on the car.
And, I remove of the MILDEW / MUSHROOM that grows on the rubber window seals, roof rack seal and some other exterior parts and spray them to look new again. The Mushroom issue is more common on specific cars and makes the overall appearance of the car nasty.
Typically, cars two years old and over can use this service with the exception of some cars where the manufacturer uses higher quality materials or mildew resistant materials.
I provide unmatched quality of service because of the unique way I apply the paint, materials I use and few techniques I developed with the years.
I would like to offer my service at your dealership to your past and present clients.
One way to do this, is to send a mass email to your database of clients while we offer them the service thru the service department one day a week. The email may include another service like dent removal or anything else you want to get the people in the doors.
This will generate income to you by charging a premium over my charges, and by getting clients in the service department for other maintenance.
If you have other ideas, I am open to hear them at our next meeting.
The unique service and offer will distinguish this dealership from the competition.
I have many impressive before and after photos, which we can send in the email to attract clients.
For instance, because trucks like Toyota Tundra and the Sequoya have a mildew problem we can send a customized email to owners of these cars addressing issue.

Toyota to bring Scion brand to Canada in 2010..

Toyota..? Lexus..!?

Now with Scion in the family.

Toyota have been making new cars in the USA for quite a bit now. Many people were asking Toyota Canada to build these here too, for not having to import them from the other side of the border. Well, Toyota responded with a positive answer!

Once limited to the United States, Toyota’s Scion brand will officially arrive in Canada in 2010 with a range of vehicles many Canadians have never seen before.

Designed for the tuner generation, Scion has a wide appeal among trend-setting young Canadians. Come 2010, no longer will those wanting a hip tC with its impressive panorama moonroof, or the brand’s xD subcompact hatchback or xB compact crossover-like five-door, be forced to cross the border and export one.

The fuel-friendly brand has also attracted the young at heart of all ages, with [...]

GP do Brasil e o campeonato

Aí você pergunta: “Mas e a chuva Leandro?”

Eu te respondo: Esqueça o post e fale com a Mãe Diná.

Toyota, the automotive market leader paying price for leadership?

Toyota has always enjoyed the market leader position for quite a while now. In the US automotive industry, Toyota ranks second after General Motors. For their quest to achieve position 1, Toyota has invested millions of US dollars on the latest Tundra. Toyota has reported its first quaterly loss since 1950.

Toyota has recalled 3.8 million vehicles that owing to the floor-mat of Tundra. Owners complain their early model Tundras are rusting away. The floor-mats could cause accelerators to get stuck and lead to a crash. The recall will involve popular models such as the Toyota Camry, the top-selling passenger car in America, and the Toyota Prius.

Toyota Prius sales went on a Dow Jones-like roller-coaster ride after ’08’s $4.50 per gallon gas gave way to the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the subsequent Great Recession. Sales fell hard early this year, only because Toyota was ramping down supplies of the old model to make way for the new Prius. The new one certainly will set new hybrid sales records.

One thing Toyota won’t be doing is shutting factories. While General Motors (GM) is laying off thousands of workers, Watanabe says it’s too early for Toyota to be closing plants, despite a capacity worldwide to produce 10 million cars a year—3.5 million more than Toyota’s sales projection for the year ahead.

Toyota president, Akio Toyoda  is quoted saying, “the World’s Number One Automaker is grasping for salvation”. The bigegst automotive winner has enough brains and cash to wade through the tough waves in this critical times. Toyota must be learning the hard way of how lonely it can be at the top.

How you can spread the word about hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to lots of people in just 15 minutes

I had a really good phone conversation yesterday with Scott Goldbach from Americans For A Hydrogen Economy.  We spoke at length about hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and what it will take to get a lot more people to become hydrogen advocates.

Education, education, education

At one point in the conversation, Scott said:

“It’s all about education.”

I completely agree.

Unfortunately, most people know very little about all that is happening with hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.  But how can this be changed?  What is an effective way to educate lots of people about hydrogen fuel cell vehicles?

My view is that most people are not going to dedicate a lot of time to this issue.  This is especially true right now with gas prices much lower than last summer.

I wrote the post “7 reasons to love Toyota hydrogen fuel cell vehicles” with this in mind.  It only takes readers around five minutes to go through the entire post which includes a 3 1/2 minute video.  But it gives them a very good overview of the state of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.  Unfortunately, very few “experts” on alternative fuel vehicles are currently aware of this information.

Way to spread the word

One way you can spread this information around to a lot of people in a very short period of time is by e-mailing this post to most or all of the people who are on your personal e-mail contact list.  I did this recently and had very good results.

Below are two e-mails I sent to most people on my personal e-mail contact list.  Please note that I asked each of them to forward the second e-mail to other people that they know.  Numerous people let me know that they forwarded the e-mail to other people.  And one person sent it to over 80 people!

I really hope you will decide to also do this.  It would only take around 15 minutes to write one or both of the e-mails below in your own words and send them to most or all of the people who are on your personal e-mail contact list.

You just never know who might end up getting the e-mail.  Maybe you know somebody who knows somebody who knows Oprah.  And if Oprah were to become an advocate of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, the hydrogen car revolution would be off to the races!

E-mail #1

Subject: Need your help

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let each of you know that I will be sending out an extremely important e-mail to you in a few minutes.  It will be self-explanatory once you read it, but I want to let you know in-advance what I am doing.

Basically, very few people know about all that is happening with hydrogen fuel cell cars.  For example, as you will see in the next e-mail, I recently spoke to a person who told me “I thought hydrogen cars were the stuff of science fiction.”

While gas prices are much lower now than last summer, the long-term problem has not gone away.

My goal is to inform as many people as possible about the facts involving hydrogen fuel cell vehicles which can solve the oil crisis.

Therefore, my hope is that you will choose to forward the next e-mail to as many people as possible after reading it and encourage them to do the same.

This would help out tremendously, because we will all be facing huge problems in a few years if the proper action is not taken to begin the transition to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.  And until a lot more people know the facts, no significant action is going to be taken.

Thanks!

Greg

E-mail #2

Subject: Hydrogen cars arriving in 2015 – Please spread the word

The U.S. imports 2/3 of its oil and this is increasing every day.  The Iraq War has already cost the U.S. nearly $700 billion.  With global oil production peaking, oil prices are set to skyrocket (i.e. $4-5 gallon or more for gasoline) once the global economy recovers beginning in the next 2-3 years.

If nothing is done to solve the oil crisis, future energy wars, economic collapse, and continued environmental damage are all pretty much guaranteed.  NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE OR WHAT YOU DO, THIS WILL NEGATIVELY IMPACT YOUR LIFE AND THE LIVES OF YOUR LOVED ONES, SO IT IS UP TO YOU TO TAKE ACTION.

YOUR job could be lost.  YOUR standard of living could go way down.  YOUR relative might have to fight in a war.  YOUR country will be at risk.

The oil crisis is simply the greatest problem that humanity has ever faced.  Approximately 250 million registered passenger vehicles and 170,000 gas stations must be replaced in the U.S. alone.

Hydrogen fuel cell cars are the solution to the oil crisis.  The cars will provide the same level of performance as the ones on the road today and the fuel can be produced domestically.  However, I recently spoke with a very smart person who said that “I thought hydrogen cars were the stuff of science fiction.”  Nothing could be further from the truth.

In order to spread the facts about hydrogen cars, PLEASE take just 5 minutes to read the short article in the link below (which includes a really interesting YouTube video of the Toyota hydrogen SUV) and then forward this message to all of your friends and family on your e-mail address list.

“7 reasons to love Toyota hydrogen fuel cell vehicles” (Which will be ready in 2015 and “affordable”)

Kamui Kobayashi to replace Timo Glock in the Brazilian GP

Kamui Kobayashi will deputise for Timo Glock at Toyota in the Brazilian Grand Prix after it was revealed that Glock sustained a cracked vertebrae in his Suzuka accident.

The German missed last weekend’s Japanese GP having crashed heavily at the exit of the chicane in qualifying. It was initially thought that his injuries were limited to a cut leg, which restricted his mobility enough to rule him out of the Suzuka race but was not expected to cause any further problems.

But today Toyota announced that further medical checks in Germany have revealed the injury to his back as well. This will prevent Glock from racing in Brazil, and team boss John Howett admitted that he was also in doubt for the season closing Abu Dhabi GP a fortnight later.

“Obviously everyone in the team is very disappointed and feels for Timo,” said Howett. “We wish him a very speedy recovery. Based on the initial diagnosis, we fully expected Timo to return in Brazil but unfortunately a different injury has been revealed which prevents that.

“He will remain in Germany to recover and we hope he can recuperate in time for Abu Dhabi, although at this stage the situation is not clear.”

Toyota reserve driver Kobayashi had deputised for Glock when an illness prevented him from running in Friday practice at Suzuka. His Interlagos appearance will mark the GP2 Asia champion’s grand prix debut.

“Kamui was the natural choice to step in and he proved in Suzuka that he is capable of holding his own,” said Howett.

“It is a difficult task for him but he knows the team will give him its complete support and we know he is motivated to make the most of this unexpected opportunity.”

YSR NA Supra

There is one thing about Japan that you’ve just got to love. No matter how many tuning shops and modified cars there are out there, finding something very special and most importantly of all, different, is not as hard as some may think. It all comes down to a need to be unique and stand out from the crowd, something that becomes very evident if you spend a little time in Japan. This need to be different is precisely what drove the owner of the exceptionally clean JZX80 you see here to go out and create something very special, a car that would satisfy his personal tastes and objectives without following any preset guidelines. From the outside it might just look like your regular twin-turbo powered JZA80 Supra, spiced up with some nice touches like these TRD Sports T3 5-spoke wheels. But one turn of the ignition key is all that’s needed to reveal that there is something a little strange going on under the hood. Continue reading at Speedhunters

The denigration of a ‘Great Company’ into ‘Bad Business’. While you were laying all that crap on your Employees, CEO’s were getting the “Under the Table Hook-Up” and cleaning out the coffers.  Uh, just continue on ‘Middle Management’ and stoke the fire of “Discontent”. When we are done with you “Useful Idiots”, we mean “Middle Management”, when you have stripped it to the ‘BONE’; we’ll get on the “Stimulus Bus”. Bye now! Don’t come around here no mo, it wouldn’t be safe for you in this present ‘Financial Climate’, forget ‘Global Warming’, you have to worry about how you are going to feed your Family fairly soon…

We aren't fat enough. Yet.

Congratulations, planet Earth.  The human race is now one step closer to becoming cyborg and one giant leap away from healthy living.  If you thought that cars, scooters and Segways were enough to ensure obesity envelops the world– Think again.

Introducing the Honda U3-X; Personal transportation device.  It’s like a Segway in the sense that it is mechanized and balance-controlled.  The major difference is that this robotic unicycle is both capable of traveling diagonally and can compensate for inadequate human balance.  Check out the video below:

One of the features Honda boasts is that riders are at relative eye level with persons who are standing upright.  Keeping riders at eye level with others is sure to make a big difference in its marketability.  The U3-X’s most commonly mentioned competitor, the Segway, leaves its riders towering above pedestrians on the street which invites some unwanted attention.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, wheelchairs keep users far below eye level.  Though the U3-X can not be immediately used a wheelchair replacement it does open a new realm of possibilities for the future of the disabled.

How does it work?  Within the large ‘unicycle’ wheel are a number of other smaller wheels.  Collectively, they can move forward and back.  Separately, they can move from left to right.  Combining the two functions allows for diagonal movement.

The impractical i-Real by Toyota.

Another personal mobility device, one more likely to be used as a wheelchair replacement, is Toyota’s i-Real.  However, when I look at it I can’t help but think; “Too bad it’s not gold. I could be the Hedonism Bot for Halloween.”  Just fetch me some grapes, an olive branch for my brow, and a submissive bot.

Ballbot, an independently moving robot made mobile by a large coated metalic ball at its base, was invented at Carnegie-Mellon University.  Though this invention was not created to carry a human being, depicted below, but it does become clear that the future of robotics is in transportation and mobility.

Overall, these kinds of technological innovations are impressive.  Though robots and legs aren’t a popular combination as of yet (save ASIMO), our robotics experts are certainly moving in the right direction.

Ballbot

I can only hope that as robotics become more accessible to the masses that we’ll simultaneously adopt healthier lifestyles.  Looking at the U3-X I can’t help but wonder if Pixar Studios suspected that “Wall-E” could become reality.

On a personal note, even though it could cause laziness to run rampant– it’s pretty cool and I totally want one.

Toyota is ‘grasping for salvation' as losses continue, chief says

Hans Greimel

UPDATED: 10/2/09 10:15 a.m. ET
Automotive News

Akio Toyoda

TOKYO — Toyota Motor Corp. President Akio Toyoda said his money-losing automaker is “grasping for salvation” as it struggles to return to profit.

The world’s largest car company was once targeting annual sales of 10 million vehicles but now expects sales of 7.3 million this year, down from 8.97 million in 2008, Toyoda said today at a news conference here.

Citing the five stages of corporate decline outlined by Jim Collins, author of How the Mighty Fall, the Toyota chief warned that his company has slumped to stage four, which Collins calls “grasping for salvation.”

“We are grasping for salvation,” Toyoda said, adding that the company already has spiraled through the first three stages: (1) hubris born of success, (2) undisciplined pursuit of more and (3) denial of risk and peril. His self-admonitions echoed the apologies commonly made by Japanese executives who take responsibility for financial turmoil or corporate scandal.

Grim assessment

While Toyota is far from entering the fifth stage — capitulation to irrelevance or death — Toyoda’s grim assessment was clearly meant to underscore the challenges he faces after only three months as president. They also seemed aimed at ensuring customers that he grasped the severity of the situation and was committed to reversing Toyota’s malaise.

“Toyota has become too big and distant from its customers,” the grandson of the automaker’s founder said as he prepares for a second-straight year of substantial financial and unit-sale decreases.

In the United States, Toyota’s sales fell 13 percent in September from a year earlier as the market suffered a sharp letdown after the government-funded cash-for-clunkers program ran out. Total U.S. sales tumbled 23 percent. Toyota is down 28 percent for the year.

Separately, Toyoda called the current dollar-yen rate “very tough,” saying the weak U.S. currency made it difficult to return to profit on an unconsolidated level.

“When you get to this level, it makes it difficult to return to profit on sales growth alone,” he said.

Toyoda repeated Toyota’s aim to return to profit at the parent level “as soon as possible,” even as it expects global sales to fall 18 percent from 2008 to 7.34 million vehicles this year. That would leave about 30 percent of the company’s production capacity unused.

Toyoda took the helm in June as the world’s biggest automaker faced one of its biggest crises in history amid a global credit crunch and an industrywide sales slump that forced General Motors and Chrysler into bankruptcy.

For the financial year to March, Toyota has projected a consolidated operating loss of ¥750 billion ($8.4 billion), assuming a dollar rate of ¥92. It has forecast a parent-only operating loss of ¥600 billion.

Recall regret

Presenting a further challenge, Toyota said this week it would recall 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus models in the United States — its largest-ever recall — because of a risk that a loose floor mat could force down the accelerator. The problem is suspected of causing at least one crash that killed four people.

“We would like to pay our deepest condolences for the loss of four precious lives,” Toyoda said. But because an investigation into the problem is still under way, he said, he could offer no further details about plans to address the issue.

“Customers who chose Toyota and Lexus cars because those brands are safe and secure are now beset with anxiety. I regret and apologize for this development,” said Toyoda, who took office in June.

The Prius has helped fuel sales growth at Toyota especially in Japan, where the government is offering two sets of incentives to promote more fuel-efficient cars.

Toyoda said he would welcome an unlikely extension of Japan’s cash-for-clunkers program beyond March, while adding it would not be prudent to keep depending on the government for help.

Singapore Grand Prix 2009

FORMULA 1™ is under the lights of Singapore and the scrutiny of millions as it embarks on its second night race on 27th September 2009.

Nothing was happening on the road yet but we were all clearly excited. We sat on our little plastic seats eating soon kueh, hoping no one would catch us with our smuggled food. Somehow after a few minutes, we did not care. We were at the FORMULA 1™ night race. I was extremely excited about going to my first FORMULA 1™ race. I kept smiling from the moment I woke up on race day, all the way till I took my seat at Stamford Grandstand. This is the coolest spot I would say. I get to enjoy views of the cars negotiating more than one turn. Last year, this was the spot which produced one of the best overtaking opportunities. I hope to see one! Or maybe an accident! I want to see some action! Preferably cars colliding into one another, skid across the roads while at the bend and BOOMZ! *chuckles*

As soon as the cars rocketed off the line near the bend, a cloud of dust flew into the air and made visibility and traction hard to come by. The smell of burnt rubber, the exhilarating sound of the engines and the tiny blobs of grease all over my limbs. WOW! It was indeed an experience. I could literally feel the cars zooming pass on my bare eyeballs!

Lewis Hamilton won Formula 1’s second night race with a commanding performance from pole position in the Singapore Grand Prix. Timo Glock and Fernando Alonso completed the podium with brilliant drives for their struggling teams, after pitlane penalties destroyed Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel’s chances of winning. Sigh, Nico I think it’s the Feulletine-Hazelnut mooncakes.

Nevertheless, Thank You Adel. It was THE BEST spot. I will be back next year – If and only IF there’s another special arrangement :*) I hope to mingle with the drivers! Till next year!

I’m lazy to upload my photos. Google them! It’s everywhere on the web For more information, visit the official website at www.singaporegp.sg

Todos contra a Toyota

Portal Exame

E a GM caiu.

A operação brasileira é a terceira maior do mundo.

A GM é o melhor exemplo disso.

Renting Transport in Bali

In an earlier post I touched on the idea of renting a car and getting around Bali, Now i would like to educate you in where and how to get the best deal when renting a motor bike or car in Kuta. I say Kuta because I have no experiance of renting bikes or cars outside ‘the village’.

The cost of all rentals, as with all things in Bali, is variable. If you are renting for a month the relative price per day will be lower. Renting from your hotel will probably be more expensive, but your more likely (not guaranteed) to get a better quality/newer/serviced car or bike.

There are a couple of ways to go here, Motor bike or car is the first choice you’ll have to make. If you decide on a motor bike then your previous experience is probably the next thing you’ll consider.

For the motor bike rider the most popular rental bike here is a Honda Tiger, a 200cc manual bike, its the bike of choice for the ‘Jakarta jet set’, and you’ll be able to see hundreds of them in seminyak. Harley Davidson also rent bikes from their workshop at the bypass for people wanting an extreem experiance. Also available but some what harder to find are the Kawasaki Ninja and Motocross Dirt Bikes.

For People with a little less experience there are semi-automatic bikes available, these are better known as scooters, the most popular models come from Honda and Yamaha, and for those with no experience there is the fully automatic Yamaha Mio which is very easy to ride, coined a “twist and go” because all you have to do is twist the handle and off you go!

(All of the bikes above can be fitted with a surfboard rack which makes flying from secret spot to secret spot a little easier when weighed down with boards).

Pricing can varie wildly, and depending on the condition of the bike, how long your renting it for, and how busy the rental place is. At the steet vendors expect to pay between 30k to 50k per day, or about 500k per month. Remember there are hundreds of people wanting to rent you a bike so just move on if they wont give you a good price.

Cars however are a little more problematic. Insurance isn’t mandatory, but well worth the extra 50,000ish a day, well I’ve never had to use it so I’m not really sure if it makes any difference at all! but it makes me feel better. Starting from the street vendors there are usually 3 types of car available, the Suzuki Karimun, Daihatsu Feroza and the Toyota Kijang. A word to the wise, These cars get used and abused every day, before you take the keys walk around the car looking for damage, check the spare tire and the jack. The windscreen wipers will have no water in them so fill up before you head out into the wild. The price for one of these cars should be about 120k per 24h, + 50k for insurance, for an average condition car.

If you want to splash out a bit more then there are many, many, many companies on line who will for between 470k and 800k a day, deliver a car to your door, Obviously these cars will be newer, cleaner, (safer) and better looking. I would suggest hiring an Suzuki APV, they are big enough to be safe but thin enough to still be able to squeeze through the tighter lanes one encounters in Bali.

The majority of roads in Bali are actually quite good, they are certainly not perfect but not as bad as you would expect. The Indonesian people don’t really take a driving test, so dont expect any of the civil driver courtesy you get back home. Yea I’m being very diplomatic!

The Police, this is really a post in its self. Briefly, the police don’t like being videoed! but if you don’t have a video camera, asking “is there is any way to sort this out now” often leads to an on the ’spot fine’. Bargain it down to between 50k to 100k. The best tactic is to only carry some small money in your wallet, and the rest somewhere else. So you can show them you dont have any more cash on you.
