Guess the JDM Minivan, Win Some CarDomain Swag

I have been having a real hard time trying to identify the JDM Minivan that has been displayed in the DUB Booth since Monday. I have asked the (real) booth professionals with no luck. I left a phone message with the Air Runner Systems distributor in Anaheim to no avail. I even threw out the question to other Bloggers here at SEMA. So now its time to throw out the question to our readers. Identify this wild custom JDM van, and win some CarDomain Swag. Read more after the Jump!

This car is the very definition of SEMA. It has the aforementioned Air Runner suspension system, over-sized wheel and tire package, and a couple of unique features. Notice the finish; This thing has every body panel covered in red vinyl, grained like the vinyl roofs offered during the 70’s. Instead of vinyl graphics proclaiming who’s products lie within the car, it is actually embroidered on the vinyl. And what is with those red headlamps?

Here’s what you do. Post a comment below, not more than three comments from each member. By the time I get back to Connecticut, I will know what it is, so you won’t get away with wild ass guesses.

Sudden Acceleration in Toyota Cars Causes Owners to Rebel After Accidents - ABC News

Does this remind anyone else of the claims of unintended acceleration with the Audi 5000 in the ’80s?

CLICK:  Sudden Acceleration in Toyota Cars Causes Owners to Rebel After Accidents – ABC News.

Hopefully this won’t shrink Toyota’s business as much as the bad press for Audi ruined their US sales.  It took over ten years for Audi to recover from that notorious 60 Minutes piece.  Prior, the Audi 5000 was the fastest selling European sedan in the US.  The model name “5000″ was so brutally tarnished that Audi had to rename and rebrand the car the “100″ in 1989 in an effort to further remove itself from the scandalous Don Hewitt-approved story on 60 Minutes.

It ends up that the complaining Audi owners were ultimately just poorly skilled drivers who were new to the brand and didn’t realize that the German automaker put the gas pedal and brake pedal closer together than domestic brands of the time.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) concluded that the majority of unintended acceleration cases, including all that prompted the 60 Minutes report, were caused by driver error (i.e., confusion of pedals).  CBS issued a partial retraction.

Got 8 kids? Buy a 10 seater Prius!

For those mad families who have 6+ kids!

This is a custom Toyota Prius 6 door-10 seater car made by a crazy Canadian man. It still gets 50 mpg would you believe. I do wonder how it takes corners however! It’s a very odd design but very well done. For me though a 7 seater is just enough for the extended family. We hire a Kia Carens from Sussex over Christmas for big family get-togethers. We like the garage and they do the best deals.

Wider is better.

after sitting on his parts and waiting for new ones to come in, my friend Cheat asked me to help him finally drop his 99 SC Lexus off to the body shop for a full color change and to get his kit put on. after loading the truck up and feeling like fast and the furious we made it. i cant give out too many details just yet, but ill give you what i can. theres more than a handful of parts on the shelf for the SC and even more plans on the blueprint for the build. i have been looking forward to this build more than many of my own. im almost excited enough to wet my pants.

just a few of the mods to not keep you in total suspense.

Ford - where shafting is No. 1. Safety? Who needs safety?

alphainventions

I haven’t really been spending much time on this blog.  Why?  I guess the realization that Ford continues its Nazi type thinking and the chances of Ford doing anything for the consumer is next to nil so I spend my time more productively elsewhere – like scratching that itch on my butt.  Kind of like the CAW/UAW workers that put our F150 together with the faulty window – their minds must have been elsewhere.

Anyways, I received the following letter which only shows there are others out there suffering the same crap from Ford.  You’ll notice the fact the wipers don’t work in the rain - kind of a safety issue in my book but I guess not much in Ford’s mind.  I guess at Ford – “Safety isn’t No. 1″.

Well, here is the letter and I have dropped the person’s name for their own safety – don’t need some Ford guy getting upset at this woman and maybe offering to repair her damages.  Yeah, right.

I am really frustrated.  My windshield wipers quit working in the rain and my 4 wheel drive light kept flashing off and on.  I took it to the  dealer and the first thing to service guy said to me was probably a windshield leak causing a short.  This is a common problem with Ford F-150’s.  When they checked it they said it was not covered by my extended warranty even though my warranty covers electrical parts.  Because it was caused by a leaking windshield they said maybe my car insurance would pay for it.  They sent somebody out and he said they would,t cover it because it in their opinion it is a manufacturers defect since alot of people have the same problem.  If any one can help me PLEASE let me know what to do.  I’ll join anybody to get them to pay for this.  Thanks

A number of lasts in Abu Dhabi

The final race of the season always features a number of “lasts” ahead of the winter break. Abu Dhabi 2009 is no exception as the grid is set to be shuffled with driver moves, team ownership and engine supply changes ahead of the 2010 season.

  • BMW Sauber are set for their 70th and final grand prix at a time when it is not clear whether its new owners – Qadbak – will conclude an agreement with the rival teams, the FIA and the commercial rights holders to compete next season. BMW Sauber, who made their debut in 2006, recorded one win with Robert Kubica in Montreal last year. Kubica himself is set for his final race with the team before moving to Renault next year.
  • The race will also mark the final race with Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) in its current guise. Promoted by former FIA president Max Mosley, the introduction of the KERS this year has proven expensive and controversial. Only Ferrari and McLaren are running KERS this weekend before the voluntary agreement to drop the technology comes into force. The systems could be reintroduced in 2011, but these are likely to be standard designs, rather than bespoke team designed and developed units.
  • The 55 lap grand prix will also be the final race where refuelling is permitted. Next season the cars will start the race with enough fuel to complete the race distance.
  • After a two-season stint, Williams has announced that they will not be using Toyota engines next year. The Grove-based team will switch to Cosworth, while Nico Rosberg has confirmed it is his final race with the team before moving to Brawn or McLaren.
  • Giancarlo Fisichella is about to start his final grand prix before standing down and starting his new career as Ferrari team test and reserve driver. With three wins from his long career, as well as a stunning second position with Force India at Spa Francorchamps this year, the Italian veteran jumped at the chance of replacing the injured Felipe Massa from the Italian Grand Prix onwards. While he has struggled at Ferrari, it was a fitting end to the Fisichella story.
  • A number of other drivers are set to compete in their final grand prix before moving teams. Fernando Alonso’s second spell with the Renault team is about to come to an end as he prepares for his move to Ferrari alongside Felipe Massa next season replacing Kimi Raikkonen. The 2007 world champion has been linked to both McLaren and Toyota next year, the former being his only realistic option he claims.Jarno Trulli is not expected to be retained at Toyota next season and could well be making his final start for the team. He has been linked with the new Lotus outfit, while current team-mate Timo Glock is reportedly an option at Renault. Heikki Kovalainen is expected to make way for the arrival of Raikkonen next year and is linked to Toyota alongside Kamui Kobayashi.
  • There could be further engines changes for next season. Red Bull is hoping to switch from Renault to Mercedes power and should Sauber make the field with Qadbak backing, they will run Ferrari engines.
